I have just received confirmation of my qualification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning association. As the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning, the NSCA support and disseminate research-based knowledge and its practical application to improve athletic performance and fitness.


The National Strength and Conditioning Association was founded in 1978 with 76 strength coaches from across the country with the common desire to network, collaborate and unify the profession of strength and conditioning. Since its inception, the NSCA has grown to nearly 30,000 members in 72 countries and become the leader in the research and education of strength and conditioning professionals.


The NSCA brings together a diverse group of professionals from the sport science, athletic, allied health, and fitness industries


Strength and Conditioning Journal

The Strength and Conditioning Journal is the professional journal for strength coaches, personal trainers, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and other health professionals working in the strength and conditioning field. This peer-reviewed journal is published six times per year.

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research

The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research is the NSCA’s scientific journal. This peer-reviewed journal is published 12 times per year and prints original research information important to strength and conditioning practitioners.

Performance Training Journal

The NSCA’s Performance Training Journal is a bimonthly, online-only publication that provides informative strength and conditioning topics based on sound research and practical application. This journal is published six times per year.

Scope of Practice of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCSs) are professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. Recognizing that their area of expertise is separate and distinct, CSCSs consult with and refer athletes to other professionals when appropriate.
